Three Crosses

Three Crosses | Dr. Kelly Wheat | 10:30 a.m.

Two criminals hang beside Jesus, and in their final moments we see a stark choice between despair and faith. In Luke 23:32–43, one thief mocks Jesus, clinging to condemnation, while the other recognizes Jesus’ innocence and asks, “Remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus’ response—“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise”—offers immediate, unearned grace. This passage strips faith down to its essentials: acknowledgment of sin, recognition of Jesus’ kingship, and trust in his mercy. In our lives, we are tempted to earn favor or to despair over past failures, but the thief’s plea shows that salvation is accessed by simple, humble dependence on Christ. Join us as we reflect on the hope of mercy that meets us in our weakest moments and the assurance that nothing we’ve done can put us beyond the reach of Jesus’ saving love.
