Beautifully Imperfect: A Woman of Faith & Courage

Beautifully Imperfect: A Woman of Faith & Courage | Dr. Kelly Wheat | 10:30 a.m.

By faith the prostitute Rahab welcomed the spies and was not killed with those who were disobedient. — Hebrews 11:31

Rahab’s story is a powerful reminder that faith does not depend on a perfect past. In a book that honors heroes of faith, Hebrews highlights a woman whose life began outside God’s covenant community but who acted in courage to protect God’s people. This sermon will explore three truths from Hebrews 11:31:

  • Faith acts: Rahab’s belief was shown through brave, tangible action. True faith moves beyond words and becomes risk—protecting others even when it costs us security or reputation.

  • Faith redefines identity: God used someone labeled an outsider and sinner to display his mercy and bring redemption. No one is beyond the reach of God’s saving work.

  • Faith participates in God’s story: Rahab’s deed tied her to Israel’s future and to Christ’s lineage. Our faithful choices connect us to God’s unfolding kingdom in ways we may never fully see.

Come prepared to consider what courageous, practical faith looks like in our community today—how we welcome, protect, and join God’s work among those on the margins.
