MVP of the Kingdom

Jesus teaches about true greatness and the danger of causing others to stumble. In Mark 9:33–42, the disciples argue about who is greatest, and Jesus overturns their expectations: greatness in God's kingdom is measured by servanthood and humility, not status or power. He takes a child as an object lesson—welcoming the vulnerable is welcoming Christ himself—and he warns sharply against causing little ones to fall into sin. The passage calls us to examine our priorities, protect the weak, and practice radical hospitality. This sermon will explore three invitations from Jesus here: to lay down ambition and embrace servanthood, to welcome and care for the vulnerable as if welcoming Christ, and to remove whatever causes people to sin. We’ll consider practical ways our church can reflect kingdom values in our ministries, relationships, and daily choices. Come ready to be challenged to live small in the world’s eyes so Christ may be honored through us.
