Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek—Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount by naming surprising pathways to true joy. In Matthew 5:3–12 Jesus lays out the Beatitudes: a countercultural blueprint for life in God’s kingdom that transforms pain, humility, and persecution into sources of hope and promise. These blessings promise comfort for the grieving, inheritance for the gentle, satisfaction for the spiritually hungry, and vindication for those persecuted for righteousness. They call us to inward dependence on God, to mercy, purity, and peacemaking, and to a faith that endures opposition with joy.
This message invites us to examine where we seek security, to embrace humility, and to embody mercy and justice in our daily lives. As a community, we are encouraged to comfort the sorrowful, to stand with the marginalized, and to live as citizens of a kingdom whose values overturn worldly expectations. Come reflect with us on how these eight promises shape our worship, discipleship, and service—so that the blessed life Jesus describes becomes visible through us in Brandon and beyond.
