Christ — The Fullness of Life (Colossians 1:1–18)

Paul’s opening words to the Colossians pull our eyes away from lesser things and fix them on the greatness of Jesus. In these first 18 verses we meet Christ as Creator, Sustainer, and Head of the church: the one through whom all things were made, in whom all things hold together, and in whom God chose to dwell. Paul’s language reminds us that Jesus is not merely a moral teacher or a helpful example; he is supreme over heaven and earth, the firstborn from the dead, and the One by whom God reconciles everything to Himself.

This passage calls us to worship and to a changed life. Worship because Christ’s authority and worth demand our praise; a changed life because the supremacy of Jesus reshapes how we think, relate, and serve. As believers, we share in the hope of his resurrection, are called into faithful ministry, and are invited to grow in knowledge of God through Christ. Practically, Colossians 1:1–18 challenges us to replace competing loyalties—philosophies, cultural pressures, or personal comforts—with allegiance to Jesus, trusting his sustaining power in every part of our lives.

Meditate on these truths this week: Christ is supreme in creation, Christ is first in resurrection, and Christ is central for the church. Let that reality inform your worship, steady your hope, and guide your daily decisions.
