Jesus Interrupts Our Fear: Luke 8:40–56
In Luke 8:40–56 we meet two desperate people whose faith collides with Jesus’ authority: a synagogue leader, Jairus, pleading for his dying daughter, and a woman crippled by illness for twelve years who reaches for hope in the crowd. Both stories show how Jesus responds to interruption — to urgent need and to unseen faith — and how his presence transforms fear into life.
This passage invites us to examine where our fear keeps us from bringing needs to Jesus, and where our faith risks exposure to receive healing. Jairus displays bold dependence, asking Jesus to come to his home. The woman models persistent faith, touching Jesus despite shame and scarcity. Jesus stops for the one who touched him, names the faith that made her whole, and then raises a child from death with words that quiet the mourners and call for faith, not fear.
Join us as we unpack how Jesus meets us in the middle of chaos, honors even hidden faith, and commands life where others have declared the end. Come prepared to be challenged to bring both your desperate requests and your quiet trust to Christ — and to leave with renewed courage to trust Jesus in places we would otherwise give up.
