Interim Pastor for Outreach, Young Adults and Education

 

Tony’s calling is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, serving vocationally at His pleasure.

 

He has been married to the former Teresa Chancellor of Montgomery, Alabama since 1980.  They have two children, Jeremy and Amy.

 

 

Tony Martin graduated from Elba High School, Elba, Alabama in 1974.  In 1977 he received his Bachelor of Science from Troy State University, Troy, Alabama with majors in Journalism and Speech/Theater.   He received a Masters of Religious Education from      Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980.

 

Since 2000 Tony has been the Associate Editor of The Baptist Record at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in Jackson, Mississippi.  Prior to his present job, he has served on staff for eight churches in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.  Other job activities include Resource Specialist for Reach Out Ministries in Norcross, Georgia; Assistant Day Camp Director for Salvation Army Northside Corps, Fort Worth, Texas; a Solicitor and Counselor for Foundations Department of James Robison Evangelistic Association in Fort Worth, Texas; and a Public Relations Intern for Shocco Springs Baptist Assembly in Talladega, Alabama.  He has served as an interim youth minister for thirteen different churches, two of which he served twice.  

 

Tony’s publications include:  Reign of Silence, novel, Xulon Press; Flake’s Formula for the Future, Mississippi   Baptist Convention Board; Gambling Addiction (workbook), Mississippi Christian Action Commission; Intensive  Caring, with Barry St. Clair, Group Books;  Awesome Way 2 Pray Devotional Guide, LifeWay (uncredited); Reach Out Ministries Strategy Manual, Reach Out Youth Solutions; Gifts of Grace, with Larry Garner, Discipleship Training Department, Mississippi Baptist Convention Board; A Deacon’s Ministry that Works, with Larry Garner, Baptist   Sunday School Board (LifeWay); as well as curriculum, devotional, and support articles in Leading Student Ministry, Encounter, Youth Alive, Baptist Youth, Youth Disciple, and Equipping Youth.

 

He is the co-founder and first secretary of the Tennessee Baptist Youth Ministers’ Fellowship, co-founder of the Florida Youth Ministers Association, and was selected to Outstanding Young Men in America in 1983.

 

Tony’s interests include football, camping, traveling, cooking, magic and sleight-of-hand, and writing.  He has a  special interest in the War Between the States history.  He is a member of 45th Alabama Regiment, a Civil War    re-enacting group.
