Dr. Jim Porter

Dr. Jimmy
Porter has been the Executive Director-Treasurer of
Mississippi Baptist Christian Action Commission, Inc.
since April 1, 2000.
He is married to the former Tommy Lynn Burns of
Philadelphia, MS. They have two daughters, Nikki Burke
of Brandon, MS and Maribeth Porter of Madison, MS, as
well as two grandchildren.
Dr. Porter received his Bachelor of Arts from Blue
Mountain College, Blue Mountain, MS, his Master of
Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary,
and his Doctor of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary.
Since 1964 he has pastored nine churches in Mississippi,
Kentucky and Florida. He has served as an Interim pastor
for four churches in Mississippi.
State denominational experiences include Mississippi
Baptist Convention Board, Order of Business Committee,
First Vice-President of Mississippi Baptist Convention,
Trustee for Mississippi College, and President of
Mississippi Baptist Convention. Nationally he has served
as a member of the Southern Baptist Convention
Nominating Committee. Dr. Porter has been a speaker in
over 300 revivals, and a keynote speaker at various
state and associational events.
He has received North American Mission Board’s
Transitional Pastor Training, and was awarded Pro-Lifer
of the Year Award from Pro-Life Mississippi.
Dr. Porter began work with the Christian Action
Commission and its 15 member commission to implement its
policies and work as authorized by the Mississippi
Baptist Convention. He directs the flow of information
from the commission to pastors, churches, and other
individuals and organizations as needed. As Executive
Director he monitors pending state and national
legislation and provides information and resources that
will assist in responding to the issues that affect the
moral climate of our state and nation.
